SPANIA
apud Iul. Capitolin. in Marco, c. 1. ex Succubitano municipio ex Spania factus Senator, uti in cod. Palatino se legisse, ait Salmas. Hispania est. Sic enim Hispaniam Veteribus dictam esse, Graecis pariter et Latinis, uti et Spanum, pro Hispano, notum. Σπάνον ἔλαιον Galeno non uno in loco: Spanus color Nonio, pro Hispano etc. Est autem ςπάνος, unde ςπάνιος, Aeol. πάνος, a quo parum Latini fecerunt, Salmas. ad Solin. p. 820. At quod apud Livium l. 21. c. 44. pro, etiam Hispanias? optimus liber habet, etiam Spanias? indicium est, non quomodo Livius eam vocem ediderit, sed quomodo istôc aevô, quô scriptus ille liber, pronuntiarent, inquit Gronov. Observation. l. 4. c. 20. Neme citerioris antiquitatis illa vox est, de qua vide eundem Salmas. Ad Spartian. in Hadriano. c. 1.
